Well, it's official! You have to scroll down a bit, but the new show is listed, a 26 episode season so they must be confidant in it. (and now you know all the info at that link.) I'm sure it could still get cancelled, but if nothing goes wrong, come next year this community will have something to talk about again!

I am somewhat excited at the prospect of a new series based on Ocean Girl, but since there is so little information about the new series at the moment, I have no idea whether it is something I could expect to enjoy. Most of us who are fans are no longer the target audience, and I wonder how much it will actually have to do with the original storyline. As much as I have loved Ocean Girl since childhood, though, it is certainly worth giving a try. I am hoping that it will be a better spin-off than the animated series was, at the very least. :)

I hope they would stick to sci-fi style of orginal series without all that magical stuff they used in "H2O just add water". What got me hooked on OG all those years ago was that style and something that i could see as scientific mistery that I can try to explore.

I agree. Although I do enjoy "magical stuff" as well, if it is a continuation of the original series as the title seems to imply, then hopefully it will remain true to its roots.

I can see it being either very good or kinda dumb, depending on the writing and what kind of show they try to make. JMS has certainly had experience making shows with great underwater scenes, so it should be beautiful and amazing because of that. But on the other hand it could turn out just like a scifi version of H2O, which would be a shame. H2O is a fun series, but doesn't have the deep plot that I like in Ocean Girl.

But it'll be a fun year finding out.

I agree. I have no doubt that it will be beautiful and nearly worth watching just for the underwater cinematography, but I am also hoping for something close to the original series in spirit. Although I never did get around to watching all of it, what I saw of H20 was cute and fun, but rather on the superficial side. That is one of the things that I love about Ocean Girl - despite being a series primarily intended for younger viewers, there was often a very reflective - even spiritual - quality to it that was compelling.

That PDF is rather old (April 2013). Nothing in the upcoming productions report as well: http://screenaustralia.gov.au/productions/upr.aspx
I guess they’re busy with season 2 of Mako Mermaids *sigh*
